With Moraine Park, situated in RMNP, closing for renovations until June 2024, you may be wondering where you’ll camp after exploring the park. Have no fear – there are many options inside and outside of the national park. You’ll have your choice of full-amenity RV parks to boondocking in the backcountry! Here are alternative campsites near Rocky Mountain National Park.


Campsites outside of Rocky Mountain National Park:

Olive Ridge 

14 miles, 23 minutes to RMNP Beaver Meadows Entrance

The Forest Service campground is situated close to the Wild Basin trailhead, giving it access to the park and Estes Park, while still being on the quieter side. 

Pawnee Campground

38 miles, 1 hour to RMNP Beaver Meadows Entrance

Open seasonally from June to September, this forest service campground sits in the Brainard Lake Recreation Area and gives access to the Indian Peaks Wilderness Area. 

Flatiron Reservoir

30 miles, 45 minutes to RMNP Beaver Meadows Entrance

Flatiron Reservoir is surrounded by 200 acres of public land, and offers amazing camping and fishing. Although swimming and boating are not permitted in this reservoir, nearby Carter Lake does (Carter Lake also offers more camping). 

Estes Park/Rocky Mountain National Park KOA

15 minutes, 6 miles to RMNP Beaver Meadows Entrance

The Estes Park KOA is only minutes from the park and includes plenty of amenities, from a free shuttle into the park in the summer months to access to Lake Estes and the Big Thompson River. 

Manor RV Park

10 minutes, 3 miles to RMNP  Beaver Meadows Entrance

Offering year-round camping, and amazing access to the park, Manor RV Park offers access to both RMNP and downtown Estes Park, as well as fishing at their private trout pond

Campsites inside Rocky Mountain National Park:

Timber Creek Campground

Timber Creek is the only campground on the west side of the park, about 8 miles north of the Grand Lake entrance. 

Glacier Basin Campground

Pine beetle infestation resulted in many tree removal at the campsites. That said, the views of the mountains are truly stunning at this site. Reservations open May 26, 2023, which includes timed entry into the park. 

Aspenglen Campground

Aspenglen is located just inside the park, near the Fall River entrance. Reservations open May 26, 2023, which includes timed entry into the park.
