Best Stand Up Paddleboard Spots near Denver

Stand Up Paddleboard Denver

SUP? It’s a relatively new water sport, at least in Colorado. Although we mostly practice it on the West Coast, we believe that the best Stand Up Paddleboard spots are in Colorado, just outside of Denver (not biased at all). Check out our page if you’re looking to rent a campervan in Denver.

To facilitate your next road trip, here are our favorite SUP’n spots near Denver:

Cherry Creek Reservoir

From Denver: 18 Miles

Whether you are a beginner or as comfortable as a fish in the water, Cherry Creek Reservoir is a perfect place for a SUP afternoon. Located just 30 minutes from Denver, it is common to see coyotes, beavers, and deer along the shores of the lake.

Horsetooth Reservoir

From Denver: 68 Miles

Horsetooth is a 6.5-mile long reservoir located an hour from Denver, not far from the Wyoming border. Insider’s tip: for the most beautiful scenic route and to avoid common touristic routes, paddle around Satanka Cove, located at the most northern tip of Horsetooth Reservoir. A-MA-ZING!

Union Reservoir

From Denver: 36 Miles

Carved out during the last glacial age, Union Reservoir is one of only a few natural lakes in Colorado. It is undoubtedly what makes its charm. An afternoon on the water at Union Reservoir is like an apple a day, it keeps the doctor away.

Dillon Reservoir

From Denver: 68 Miles

Located more than an hour’s drive from Denver, Dillon Reservoir is the perfect opportunity to rent your Native Campervans, put on your bathing suit, and jump in the water.  For the most protected water and scenic views of the mountains, paddle around Giberson and Frisco Bays.Bonus: Campground located directly on-site with views of the lake. Beat that!

Boulder Reservoir

From Denver: 32 Miles

In a nutshell, Boulder Reservoir is a stretch of calm water perched between the Colorado Rockies with a view of the surrounding mountains, including the oh-so-popular Rocky Mountain National Park. For a successful day, paddle against the current, lie comfortably on your SUP, and let the current take you back to the white sand beach. Yes, being lazy is fun.

Ready for an afternoon in the sun? Before you leave though, let’s remember what mom would say: ”Now, don’t forget your lifejacket and sunscreen”. Now go enjoy a beautiful day on the Stand-Up paddleboard, right outside of Denver.
