How To Do a Long-Term Campervan Rental

There’s nothing like hitting the road for an extended period of time. Now more than ever, road warriors are extending their weekend trips to weeks, or even month-long adventures. As many companies permanently transition to remote work, it is possible to take that extended trip without using up your PTO. These travelers are hitting the road via campers, traveling trailers, RVs, and campervans (obviously) with their laptops, partners, family, and/or pets in tow for months at a time. It’s time to try a long-term campervan rental!

If you’ve never tried it, now is the perfect time! Whether it’s for a week or a month, the open road is calling your name. Why not log in to your conference call from Yosemite National Park? Or lead a team presentation with the Grand Tetons in the background? Adventure is calling!

Pros of Long-Term Campervan Rentals

It can be really tempting to put down a down payment on a van of your own. Especially when it seems like everyone is doing it! Social media can romanticize vanlife, but what influencers don’t show you in their Instagram stories or grid posts is the adjustment it takes to live in a van for more than a few days at a time. We suggest trying out a long-term campervan rental before you buy a van of your own. To reinforce the point, our team has put together a list of some of the pros of a long-term campervan rental.

You get to see more places
Most campervan renters are only van bound for a weekend retreat. When you rent for a longer period of time, 12 hours in Bryce Canyon can turn into 36 hours or more. You can take your time at each stop, really get to know the area, and see the beauty up close. When you’re renting for the weekend, it’s a mad dash to get to all the places on your list. Many of our short-term renters say they wish they could spend a few more days really seeing what each park is all about. Long-term renters aren’t in a rush to move on, home is wherever they are and for however long they are there.

It’s cheaper

Crazy, right? The longer you rent one of our vans, the cheaper it gets.  You might as well extend that trip if you’re thinking about it! Heck, save some money and rent for the max 30 days!

Try before you buy
Car dealers have really beaten it into our heads that we shouldn’t try a car before we buy it. Why is that any different for a campervan? At the height of the pandemic, and still to this day, we’ve seen an increase in campervan sales across the country. Most of the people buying these vans have never experienced life on the road for longer than a weekend.

Why spend $80,000+ on a fully decked-out Sprinter van when you don’t know if you even like life on the road?! An extended campervan rental is a great way to “try before you buy” and really figure out if the extended road warrior life is for you!

The benefits of renting over buying are a no-brainer!

  1. You won’t have monthly campervan payments. Who knows what the financial forecast will be in a few months, let alone a few years. Don’t lock yourself into high-dollar monthly payments if you’re not entirely sure about the purchase.
  2. No maintenance expenses for upkeep. When you rent a campervan, you don’t have to spend thousands on new tires, re-alignment, oil changes, or larger fixes. Our team takes care of all of that for our renters.
  3. No off-season storage fees. Storage fees can get expensive! Think about how expensive it is to store a boat or RV. Why spend your hard-earned cash on recreational vehicle storage fees for something you can’t or won’t use when you can spend that money on multiple month-long campervan rentals at your leisure?
  4. No insurance expenses. When you buy a campervan, you’ll have to get insurance on the vehicle in addition to your everyday car insurance. Campervan insurance can be more expensive than everyday car insurance because of the classification of a campervan as a recreational vehicle.
  5. You don’t have to worry about roadside assistance. Most rental companies offer 24/7 roadside assistance in case you have trouble, which can help put your mind at ease. You don’t have to worry about breakdowns when you rent a van!
  6. You’ll find out if you actually want to own a campervan!

If your company isn’t headed back into the office anytime soon, or you’re wistfully browsing campervan listings, we highly recommend checking out one of our vans for an extended period. Try a few conference calls from the road before you commit to the lifestyle. There’s nothing wrong with being 100 percent sure about a purchase before you actually do it, especially with something as expensive as a campervan. A long-term campervan rental can be a big choice, but we’re here to make it happen and help you in any way we can!
