Great Sand Dunes National Park

Sandboarding and Sand Sledding
If you are a risk taker or enjoy trying new things you’ll have to check out sandboarding. Imagine all the things you could do in the snow but on the sand! The park doesn’t rent out the equipment but nearby stores do. This is a must activity if you’re visiting the Sand Dunes.

Swimming in Medano Creek
A classic stop in the Sand Dunes is Medano Creek. Enjoy a nice cool down by splashing or tubing in this stunning river. Make sure you check the conditions before you go!

Hidden Dune
This hike is not for the faint of heart but is absolutely worth the journey. It’s hidden from most of the day-use areas and is a sand oasis. It is about 7 miles and will take up to 6 hours. You’ll be surrounded by a sea of sand on your adventure so don’t forget water or sunscreen!

Pinon Flats Campground
This spot has all the amenities you will need including the best views. This a popular campsite since it is a central location so make sure you get that reservation early, it will be worth it.

Great Sand Dunes Oasis
This campsite is exactly what it sounds like, a sand oasis. This is another great spot that has everything you need for a comfortable weekend of fun and adventure.

North Crestone Creek Campground
Another campground that sits right outside the north side of the National Park. It’s a quiet spot with all the view types surrounding it. You’ll get to see mountains, sand, and trees all in one!
