Let’s talk about what to do and where to stay on your trip to the Salt Flats.

Getting to the Salt Flats

From Salt Lake City, the Bonneville Salt Flats is just 110 miles away, or 1hr and 30 minutes. You could make a quick weekend trip out of the visit or turn it into a stop on your weeks-long tour of the Utah hot spots. If you’re coming from Las Vegas, the trip is a little longer but still worthwhile! You’re looking at 450 miles or just under seven hours.

That’s a super easy drive if you’ve got the right company and the perfect road trip playlist! When you rent a campervan with us, we’ll make sure you’re set up for whatever you plan to do whether it’s a quick trip or something a little longer.

Things to do at the Bonneville Salt Flats

Take pictures and hang out on the Salt Flats

Because the salt flats are open to the public you can spend as little or as much time frolicking on the salt flats as you like. Some people pull up for the day and bring games with them such as croquet, frisbees, and even kites. You can pull up a chair and relax, capture some gram-worthy content, or play some games with your traveling companion. If you get here early enough or stay late enough, you may catch the most amazing sunrise or sunset of your life.

Soak in the Bonneville Salt Pools

About a mile and a half into the salt flats sit a crystal-clear pool full of water that you can soak in. Because of the salt content in the water, you’ll float right on top of the water. This is the ultimate relaxing experience because you don’t have to put in the effort to float!

Leppy Hills Trail

This trail is near the Bonneville Salt Flats and is a .5, 3, and/or 6-mile loop. You can hike, bike, or run on this trail. There is lots of desert scenery and you may run into other hikers, bikers, and dogs along the way. The rail overlooks the Salt Flats.
