Starting off with one of the best winter destinations in Utah, Bryce Canyon’s Hoodoos are unmatched when they are covered in snow. There are also stunning lookouts, lesser-crowd trails, the stillness of nature, and the pretty contrast of the orange rock formation, the fresh white snow, and green pine trees. Bryce Canyon has it all during wintertime.
Mostly sunny and chilly in January and February, we would recommend checking the forecast before heading to Bryce Canyon. Snowstorms are possible (though pretty) and could make your drive to the Park difficult.
In the Wasatch Mountains, Twin Lake Pass is a well-known point for hikers, skiers, and snowshoers. Although the hike is slightly longer than the popular Cecret Lake hike and Catherine’s Pass, the views here are just mind-blowing.
Linking the towns of Alta and Brighton between Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons (also stunning), this 1.75 miles one-way trail promises amazing landscapes during the winter!
Utah’s best keep secret in the winter: hands down Powder Mountain. With over 7000 acres of the epic terrain covered in 500 inches of pristine powder, Powder Mountain is the place to slalom in Utah.
Unlike many other Utah ski resorts, Pow Mow doesn’t make any snow, which also means little or no ice on the slopes! With incredible views, low crowds, and tons of backcountry powder, you just can’t pass on Powder Mountain.
There is no better way to warm up during cold days than to soak in a natural hot spring. Consisting of two concrete pools and six vintage cast iron bathtubs, Mystic Hot Springs is located in Monroe, UT (2.5 hours from Salt Lake City) and provides nice and hot water, usually between 99-110 degrees Fahrenheit.
In only a few minutes spent at Mystic Hot Springs, you will easily understand why these springs were given their Mystical name.
Mountain Timpanogos is spectacular to hike in the summer until you hike it in the winter and realize this place is just as fantastic (if not more) in the winter! The view from the different peaks will leave you speechless: snow and mountains as far as the eye can see. The best way to enjoy winter and nature at it’s very best.
